4 Days Nyungwe Primates Rwanda Safari
Day 1: Kigali city tour & transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
The tour starts with airport / hotel pickup in Kigali or, wherever you are, you will meet our professional driver / guide and immediately embark on a Kigali city tour.
The tour will take you to historical places in the city such as the Genocide memorial Center, Kimironko market, different monuments and visit Nyamirambo women’s group where you will meet and interact with local members of the community.
It is a moment worth your time. Retreat for some refreshments at any restaurant of your choice.
Immediately, you will get on the road to Nyungwe Forest national park in south western province of Rwanda. It will take only five hours to drive from Kigali city to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
The journey is blissful and is characterized by terraced hills, rugged valleys, lush vegetation and beautiful scenery. Upon arrival, check in to the lodge of your choice, relax, have dinner and spend a night.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park
This is the main day on the 4 days Nyungwe Forest safari. It will start with an early morning breakfast followed by assembling at Uwinka park headquarters.
It is here that you will be briefed about chimpanzee trekking, assigned a ranger or guide and a group of people to do the trekking with.
As soon as the briefing is over, enter the forest of Nyungwe and start the much awaited trek. It involves skillfully dodging thorny trees and walking the already established trails.
The trekking takes between two and six hours. Before you know it, you will be in the presence of these human-like primates, chimpanzees.
You will be given a full hour in their presence as you take pictures and enjoy them play, feed and mate. Return to your lodge for late lunch and relax in the compound as you read a book or a magazine.
There is an option of visiting the neighboring communities for an additional experience. Retire for dinner and a night stay.
Day 3: Canopy walk and Birding in Nyungwe Forest
If you are interested in seeing early risers of the park, you must wake up earlier with your binoculars and go for birding in the nearby parts of the forest.
It is such an amazing experience as you hear birds sing sweet melodies that take long to get off your memory even after you have returned to your country.
Return to your lodge for morning breakfast and relax as you wait on the sun to get hot and sweeter. You will then go for canopy walk adventure which involves walking on the suspended bridge on top of the forest.
It is also a good bird viewing point so if you are a bird lover, do not leave your binoculars and cameras behind. It is here that you can have a memorial picture that will always remind you of a safari in Rwanda. Return to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali – Departure
After a delicious morning breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on the journey back to Kigali city.
The driver will drop you at either Kigali international airport or any hotel depending on your choice. Thus the end of your 4 days Nyungwe Forest primate safari.
