Detailed Gorilla Hiking Rwanda Safari Package

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport

Our tour guide / driver will pick you up at the Kigali international airport, brief you on the tour itinerary, and then transfer you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Depending on the time of your arrival, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while viewing the surroundings of the capital city of Kigali from your hotel, or you can opt for a short city tour.

The highlight of the city tour would be visiting the Kigali genocide memorial and the Richard Kandt House Museum, which provide historical context for Rwanda. Dinner and lodging at the lodge.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, we will travel to Volcanoes National Park, approximately 114 square kilometers and two hours’ drive north of Kigali.

Before departing Kigali, you may wish to visit additional locations, such as the Kimironko market, the Inema arts center, and the new Kigali International Convention Building. Then, proceed through picturesque rolling hills to your lodge near the park.

Views of the natural rain forest and Virunga Mountain ranges, which are home to endangered mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, and more than 187 species of birds, can be appreciated. At your eco lodge, dinner and spend overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Gorilla Guardians Village walk

After breakfast, you will assemble at the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi.

The rangers will brief you on gorilla regulations and prepare you for gorilla trekking.

And if you’re not physically fit, you can hire a porter to carry your backpack while lending you a hand. Following this, you enter the forest with the rangers to search for gorillas while learning about their habitat.

Depending on their location, the trek can take anywhere between 1 and 3 hours.

Once gorillas have been located, spend the allotted hour observing and photographing them. After completing the return trek to Kinigi center and having lunch at the lodge, you will take a few hours off to relax.

Walk from the lodge to a cultural village – Gorilla Guardians center in the evening to observe village activities such as Intore dance performances, bow and arrow shooting and food preparation, among others.

On the way back, appreciate the interactions with the locals who carry items on their heads. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Golden monkey tracking and transfer back to Kigali

Golden monkey tracking begins at Kinigi visitor center at 7:30 am. In contrast to the gorilla trek, golden monkey hike is simple.

You hike on marked trails in a bamboo zone, where searching for monkeys, which you will see for one hour, becomes more exciting.

After golden monkey tracking, you will be transferred back to Kigali and driven to the airport for a flight to your next destination, concluding your 4 days Rwanda hiking safari tour.
