Detailed Rwanda Honeymoon Package

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

At the international airport in Kigali, your tour guide will meet you.

Depending on the time of day, you could visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where 250,000 Tutsi victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide are buried.

Next, travel from Kigali through picturesque rolling hills to Musanze, the largest town in Rwanda’s Northern Province.

Check into the lodge and have a restful evening. Your lodging has been chosen to bring you closer to the tropical forest, with a view of the Virunga Mountains.

Day 2: Gorilla tracking and cultural experience

At 7:30 in the morning, you will arrive at the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi.

Here, you will meet the Rwandan Development Board rangers who will brief you on the dos and don’ts.

For instance, how long it takes to locate the gorillas and what supplies you should bring on your trek including hiring a porter.

After that, the rangers will lead you on a foot trek in search of gorillas. Once they are located, you have exactly one hour to observe and photograph them to create lasting memories.

You will return to Kinigi for a final report from your rangers and lunch at the lodge before the cultural tour. When the heat of the day begins to subside in the afternoon, you can go for a community walk.

The location to visit is the village of the Gorilla Guardians within a walk-able distance. Formerly known as the Iby’iwacu cultural center, this 2005-founded non-profit assists ex-poachers through arts and crafts.

Therefore, the center provides interaction with Rwandan natives, including traditional dance, cuisine, and architecture. Additionally, there are activities available for both adults and children.

For instance, archery and dressing as king and queen for a traditional wedding ceremony show.

All proceeds contribute to ex-poachers’ capacity for sustainable economic development, thereby facilitating the restoration of natural habitats.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight accommodations.

Day 3: Transfer to Gisenyi town, Lake Kivu

Today, you depart Musanze and travel to the town of Gisenyi on the northern shores of Lake Kivu, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

You could visit Muhanga Eco Park for a nature walk and still arrive at Gisenyi early in the day given that you drive the 65 square kilometers within 1 hour between the two locations.

Gisenyi is the largest town on Lake Kivu, one of the seven African Great Lakes that serves as the western border between Rwanda and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

You will check into a lakeside resort hotel for dinner and the night upon arrival.

The lake can be explored for birding along its shores by boat or on foot along the shores.

Gisenyi beach is the only public beach, though some of the hotels provide access to private beaches and the lake without the crowds.

Day 4: Gisenyi and Lake Kivu full day

After breakfast, embark on a boat tour of Lake Kivu’s islands for bird watching and a spectacular panorama of the surrounding area. The boat has a sunshade with refreshments and snacks.

After the three-hour boat ride, return to the lodge for lunch. Later in the evening, you might venture out to experience vibrant Gisenyi city nightlife. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure

On the final day of this 5 days Rwanda gorillas and Lake Kivu safari, you will enjoy breakfast, check out of your room and drive from Gisenyi to the capital city of Kigali.

Find your way to the genocide memorial site in Kigali and the Kaplacki craft market for shopping.
