Detailed Rwanda Gorilla & Masai Mara Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up from Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your safari guide who will welcome you and brief you about the trip. Begin your journey to Volcanoes National Park, located in northern Rwanda.

Along the way, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. If time allows, visit a nearby craft shop to buy souvenirs before continuing to the park. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing with your ranger guide about gorilla trekking rules.

You will then set off into the forest to begin your gorilla trek. The experience usually takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, spend one unforgettable hour watching them feed, play, and interact.

Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Kigali and Fly to Nairobi

Enjoy an early breakfast and transfer to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Nairobi, Kenya.

Upon arrival in Nairobi, meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Drive to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, start your journey to Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most famous wildlife destinations.

The drive takes about 5 to 6 hours with a stop for lunch en route. On arrival, check in at your lodge and relax for the evening. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Full Day Game Drives in Masai Mara

After breakfast, head out for a full-day game drive in Masai Mara. This reserve is home to many wild animals including cheetahs, hyenas, leopards, lions, elephants, warthogs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.

Bird species you may spot include the secretary bird, grey heron, and Kori bustard. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and continue exploring until evening. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Morning Game Drive and Return to Nairobi

Start your day with an early morning game drive to see animals that are most active at sunrise, such as lions and hyenas returning from a night hunt.

After the drive, return to your lodge for breakfast, check out, and begin your journey back to Nairobi. Have lunch en route and continue to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home, marking the end of your 6-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Maasai Mara Wildlife Safari.
