Detailed 5-Day Murchison Falls & Kibale Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Travel to Murchison Falls National Park

On the first day of your 5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife and Kibale Chimpanzee Safari, you will be welcomed by our company representative and driver-guide upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport. After a short briefing, begin your journey to Murchison Falls National Park.

You may stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking before proceeding to Masindi town for lunch. Continue the drive through Kichumbanyobo gate and visit the top of the falls to see how the Nile River squeezes through a narrow gap to create one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.

Afterward, head to your lodge for dinner and overnight. You may also choose to do a night game drive.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise on the Victoria Nile

Start the day with an early breakfast before heading out for a morning game drive. This is the best time to spot lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes. You will also see giraffes, antelopes, and many bird species.

Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Nile River that goes upstream to the base of Murchison Falls. You will have great opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and several bird species along the riverbanks.

After the cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. You can also gather around a campfire for storytelling or cultural performances.

Optional: You may take a hot air balloon ride either in the morning before the game drive or in the evening after the boat cruise.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, depart Murchison Falls National Park for Kibale Forest National Park. Enjoy the drive through scenic countryside, tea plantations, and the escarpments of the Albertine Rift Valley.

Have lunch en route in Fort Portal town. If time allows, visit the Amabere Ga’nyinamwiru caves, waterfalls, and nearby crater lakes before continuing to your lodge near Kibale Forest.

Check in for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Wetland Walk

After breakfast, go to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing before chimpanzee trekking. The activity usually takes a few hours depending on where the chimps are located.

Kibale Forest is home to about 13 species of primates including red colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, blue monkeys, and baboons. The forest also shelters unique mammals such as forest elephants and giant forest hogs.

Return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, take a guided nature walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a great place for bird watchers. You may spot the Great Blue Turaco, Papyrus Gonolek, and many other birds and butterflies. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Return to Kampala

Enjoy breakfast and then start your journey back to Kampala. Have lunch en route in Mubende or Mityana before continuing to Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home.

End of 5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife and Kibale Chimpanzee Safari.
