Detailed 3-Day Bwindi Gorillas & Rwanda Golden Monkey Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Optional Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Depending on your time of arrival for this 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trek and Rwanda Golden Monkeys Safari, you will be picked up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali at around 8:00 am. You will then go for a city tour, visiting Kimironko Market, the Belgian Monument, Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, and the Presidential Palace Museum, among other attractions.
After lunch, start your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda through the Katuna border. Arrive in the evening and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Transfer Back to Rwanda (Musanze Sector)
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and drinking water for a pre-trek briefing. The briefing starts at 7:30 am and lasts about 30 minutes to one hour.
Afterward, begin your trek into the forest with your ranger guides to look for mountain gorillas. The trek can take between 2 and 8 hours depending on how far the gorillas have moved. Once you find them, spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural environment.
After the trek, enjoy your lunch packs either in the forest or at the starting point, then meet your driver-guide for the transfer back to Rwanda through the Cyanika border in Kisoro. Arrive in the Musanze sector in the evening and check in at your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Return to Kigali
Have an early breakfast and head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing before your golden monkey trek. The trekking process is similar to gorilla trekking but usually takes about 3 to 5 hours.
The number of visitors is limited, and you are allowed one hour to observe and photograph the golden monkeys once you find them.
After the trek, return to the lodge to freshen up and have lunch. Later, transfer back to Kigali. Depending on your departure time, you may stop for craft shopping or enjoy one last short city tour before heading to the airport for your flight.
