Detailed 18-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport

On arrival at Entebbe Airport, your professional guide will welcome you to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. You will be briefed about the safari and then driven to your hotel in Kampala. Enjoy views of Lake Victoria and some of Kampala’s historical buildings along the way.

After lunch, take a short city tour to visit the Uganda Museum, Gaddafi National Mosque, and Nakasero Market to see how locals trade fruits and farm produce. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Entebbe dock for a 45-minute boat ride to Ngamba Island. The island is home to about 49 rescued and orphaned chimpanzees. Watch them feed and play from the viewing platform.

Later, return to the mainland and drive back to Kampala for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, begin your journey to Lake Mburo National Park, about 3 to 4 hours away. Stop at the equator for photos and lunch before continuing to the park. In the evening, take a short nature walk before dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Lake Mburo National Park

After an early breakfast, go for a morning game drive to see animals such as zebras, buffaloes, impalas, and elands. Return to the lodge for lunch, then go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo to see crocodiles, hippos, and birds. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Enjoy views of green hills, farmlands, and valleys along the way. Stop for lunch en route and continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Visit

After breakfast, head to the park offices with your packed lunch and water. You will be briefed by the rangers before starting your gorilla trekking adventure. The trek may take 1 to 7 hours depending on the gorillas’ movement.

Once you find the gorillas, spend one hour observing and taking photos. Later in the afternoon, visit the Batwa community to learn about their traditional life, stories, and music. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha sector, where you might spot tree-climbing lions resting on fig trees. Stop for lunch along the way, then continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi area to see elephants, lions, buffaloes, antelopes, and leopards. After lunch, take a 3-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. Expect to see hippos, crocodiles, and other animals along the banks. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Drive to Semuliki Valley National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Semuliki Valley National Park, about 4 hours away. Enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains on your way. On arrival, relax until evening, then take a night game drive to see nocturnal animals like serval cats and genets. Have dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 10: Visit Sempaya Hot Springs and Nature Walk

After breakfast, visit the Sempaya Hot Springs, which include both male and female springs. The female spring is hot enough to boil an egg, which you can try during your visit. Take photos and enjoy the scenery before returning for lunch. In the afternoon, go for a nature walk and visit nearby villages or enjoy bird-watching. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Kibale Forest National Park, about 34 kilometers away. Stop for lunch in Fort Portal and continue to your lodge near the park. Kibale is home to about 13 primate species, including chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys, and baboons. Have dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, go for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest. You will be briefed at the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre before entering the forest. You may see chimpanzees, monkeys, baboons, forest elephants, and various birds.

Return for lunch, then take a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp to see birds and primates. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest park. The journey takes about 7 hours, with a lunch stop in Hoima. Enjoy views of plantations and the Albertine Rift escarpments along the way. On arrival, check in for dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive on the northern side of the park. Look out for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, and antelopes.

After your picnic lunch, take a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. Watch hippos, crocodiles, and birds along the Nile. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 15: Drive to Mount Elgon Region

After breakfast, depart for the eastern part of Uganda, heading toward Sipi Falls near Mount Elgon National Park. Stop in Jinja for lunch and continue through scenic landscapes to the foothills of Mount Elgon. Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 16: Visit Sipi Falls and Community Walk

After breakfast, hike to the three waterfalls of Sipi Falls. Enjoy views of farms and plantations along the trails. You may also meet local farmers and learn about coffee growing. Afterward, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 17: Drive to Jinja and Visit the Source of the Nile

After breakfast, drive to Jinja, about 4 to 5 hours away. On arrival, check in to your lodge, have lunch, and visit the Source of the Nile. Take a boat ride to the exact point where the Nile begins its long journey to the Mediterranean Sea. Return for dinner and overnight.

Day 18: Optional Bungee Jumping and Departure

On your final day, enjoy breakfast and check out. Depending on your flight time, you may stop at Mabira Forest for a short walk or take part in optional bungee jumping in Jinja before continuing to Entebbe for your departure flight.
