Detailed 3-Day Mgahinga Gorilla Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
On the first day of your 3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla Safari, your driver-guide will pick you up either from the airport on arrival or from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe.
You will be briefed about the trip and then start your journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which takes about nine hours. The first stop will be at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for photos, followed by another stop in Mbarara town for lunch.
Continue the drive to Mgahinga while enjoying beautiful views of the Virunga ranges, Kigezi highlands, and the green countryside of southwestern Uganda. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest for the night.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Trail
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park guide about the rules and guidelines for gorilla trekking.
You will then start your gorilla trekking adventure, walking through the forest along slippery trails as you search for the gorillas. The hike may take a few hours, but it is a truly rewarding experience.
Once you find the gorillas, spend one hour with them, taking photos (without flash) and watching their fascinating behavior. See the silverback keeping watch over his family and the young gorillas playing among the trees.
In the afternoon, after lunch, visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience. Learn how the Batwa, the ancient forest people, once lived, hunted with bows and arrows, made fire, and cooked local food. You will also have a chance to taste some of their traditional dishes before returning to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 3: Return to Kampala or Entebbe
Wake up early for breakfast while enjoying your last view of the Virunga mountains. Check out and start the nine-hour journey back to Kampala. You will pass through Kabale, Mbarara, and Kayabwe (at the Equator) before reaching Kampala or Entebbe.
You may proceed directly to Entebbe Airport for your evening flight.
