Detailed 3-Day Bwindi & Lake Bunyonyi Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your 3 Days Bwindi Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi Safari begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. You will then start your journey to the southwestern part of Uganda via the Masaka–Mbarara highway. The drive takes about 8 to 9 hours but offers beautiful views and interesting stops along the way.

Make your first stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for photos and a short water experiment showing how water swirls in different directions in the northern and southern hemispheres.

You will have lunch at Igongo Country Hotel or Agip Motel in Mbarara before continuing the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enjoy the scenic views of the Kigezi highlands, Virunga ranges, and the green vegetation along the way. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, and relax with dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trek and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a short briefing by the park rangers about gorilla trekking rules and guidelines. You will be divided into groups of up to eight people, each assigned to trek a specific gorilla family.

The trek takes you deep into the forest along narrow trails, sometimes requiring you to hold onto branches for balance. The time spent searching for the gorillas varies, but once you find them, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact. Take as many photos as you wish, as long as your camera has no flash.

In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, arriving in time for an evening canoe ride. You will visit some of the 20 islands scattered across the lake, including the historical Punishment Island, where unmarried girls who became pregnant were once abandoned.

Day 3: Boat Cruise and Return to Kampala

After an early breakfast, take a short boat cruise to explore some of Lake Bunyonyi’s hidden islands. Visit local communities and fishermen who live along the lake’s shores and learn about their daily life.

Return to the lodge for check-out and then begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your 3 Days Bwindi Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi Safari.
