Detailed 6-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Serengeti Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park from Kigali

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your guide and begin your journey to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda’s home for endangered mountain gorillas.

The drive takes about 4 to 5 hours, passing through beautiful landscapes where you can stop for photos. Arrive at your lodge near the park and check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Community Tour

After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking rules and safety guidelines. With your ranger guide and group, head into the forest to search for a gorilla family.

The trek may take between 2 to 5 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas and your pace. Once you find them, spend one unforgettable hour observing their behavior and taking photos.

In the afternoon, visit a nearby community village to learn about Rwandan culture through traditional dance, music, and local crafts. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer Back to Kigali via Twin Lakes, Fly to Arusha and Drive to Karatu

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali, passing by the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo for scenic views and photography. If time allows, enjoy a short canoe ride on the lakes to learn about their history and local legends.

Continue to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to Karatu, where you will have dinner and rest for the night.

Day 4–5: Explore the Plains of Serengeti National Park

Spend two full days exploring the vast plains of Serengeti National Park. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, bush breakfasts, and picnic lunches in the park.

Look out for a variety of wildlife including lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, leopards, warthogs, antelopes, and baboons. The Serengeti is also home to the famous wildebeest migration, an amazing wildlife spectacle.

Evening relaxation and overnight at your lodge or camp.

Day 6: Transfer to Arusha and Departure

After breakfast, enjoy a sunrise game drive to spot more animals such as wildebeests, elephants, giraffes, and predators like lions and leopards.

Later, drive to Arusha and continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your scheduled flight home, marking the end of your 6-Day Rwanda Gorillas, Culture & Serengeti Wildlife Safari.
