Detailed Primate Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will be picked up from your agreed location in Kampala or Entebbe and transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda.

Travel through the Kampala–Fort Portal highway, passing natural forests and green landscapes. Stop in Mubende for a short break and in Fort Portal for lunch. Enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains and tea plantations before arriving at the park in the evening. Check in at your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains. Look out for elephants, lions, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, and Uganda kobs.

After lunch, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel to see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds, including seasonal migratory species. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The journey takes you through the Ishasha Sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions that can only be found here and in Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania.

Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Community Walk

After an early breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking rules and safety. Hire porters if needed, then enter the forest with your guide to search for a gorilla family. Once found, spend one hour observing and photographing them.

Return to your lodge for lunch. In the evening, visit the Batwa Community for a cultural experience through music, dance, and storytelling. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, cross the border into Rwanda and head to Volcanoes National Park, famous for its mountain gorillas and rare golden monkeys. Enjoy scenic countryside views as you arrive in Ruhengeri. Check in at your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking. Learn the dos and don’ts before starting your trek through the bamboo forest.

Spend about one hour with the playful golden monkeys and enjoy watching them jump from tree to tree. You may also see other primates such as olive baboons, vervet monkeys, and white colobus monkeys.

In the afternoon, you can take an optional nature walk or relax at your lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Kivu for Beach Experience

After breakfast, drive to Lake Kivu, one of the most beautiful lakes in East Africa shared between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Enjoy a boat cruise on the lake and relax at the beach while admiring the peaceful surroundings. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park, known for its 13 primate species including chimpanzees.

This tropical rainforest is one of Africa’s oldest and offers great opportunities for chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk. Arrive and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking and Optional Canopy Walk

After breakfast, go for a chimpanzee trekking adventure. Join your guide for a briefing before entering the forest to track chimpanzees. Spend one hour observing and photographing them.

You may also see other primates like red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus, red colobus, and grey-cheeked mangabeys.

In the afternoon, take an optional canopy walk to enjoy aerial views of the forest and its wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Head to Kigali for City Tour and Departure

After breakfast, drive to Kigali for a city tour. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, former Presidential Palace Museum, local markets, and historical monuments.

Have lunch and later transfer to the airport for your departure, marking the end of your 10 Days Uganda Rwanda Wildlife & Primates Trekking Safari.
