Detailed 3-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Akagera National Park
Your driver-guide will meet and welcome you at the agreed pickup point in Kigali for the start of your exciting three-day safari to Akagera National Park.
You will get a short briefing about Rwanda and the activities planned for your trip. Then, begin your drive to Akagera in the eastern part of the country. The journey covers about 122 kilometers and takes around 2 and a half hours.
Upon arrival, register at the park’s visitor center before checking in at your lodge for refreshments and lunch. In the late afternoon, go for a bird-watching walk guided by an expert who will help you identify several bird species and their habitats.
Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema
After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive in the company of park rangers. This 3 to 4-hour drive offers a great chance to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and warthogs.
If lucky, you may also spot leopards and hyenas moving across the savannah. The open plains of Akagera provide perfect photo opportunities of Rwanda’s wildlife.
After the game drive, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will see hippos, crocodiles, and many water birds. Some animals gather near the lake to drink, making it a great place for wildlife viewing.

Day 3: Return to Kigali and Optional City Tour
