Detailed 5-Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Your driver guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport and drive you to the lodge near Nyungwe Forest National Park.

During the drive, enjoy scenic views of Rwanda’s hills and countryside, earning it the name “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest for the next day’s activities.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, check out from the lodge with your packed lunch and head to the Nyungwe Forest trekking point. Meet your ranger guide for a briefing before beginning your chimpanzee trekking adventure.

The trek offers a chance to see chimpanzees that share 98% of human DNA. You will observe their behavior, feeding, and communication in the forest. After the trek, enjoy your packed lunch and then transfer to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Akagera National Park

After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing before your gorilla trekking experience. With your guide and ranger, start the trek to find one of the habituated gorilla families.

You will spend one full hour observing the gorillas as they eat, play, and interact. After trekking, return to the starting point and meet your driver for the transfer to Akagera National Park, located in the eastern part of Rwanda. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Boat Cruise and Evening Game Drive

After breakfast, go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, one of the most exciting activities in Akagera National Park. This experience allows you to see hippos, crocodiles, water birds, and other wildlife around the lake.

In the afternoon, enjoy an evening game drive through the savanna. You may spot elephants, lions, rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, and many antelopes. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Depart Back to Kigali City

After an early breakfast, meet your driver guide for a short briefing about your safari experience before starting the journey back to Kigali City.

Stop for lunch in Kigali, known as one of the cleanest and safest cities in Africa. Later, your guide will drop you off at the airport for your departure, marking the end of your 5 Days Rwanda Safari Tour.
