Detailed 3-Day Gombe Chimpanzee Trekking from Burundi Itinerary
Day 1: Burundi to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania
After breakfast, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Bujumbura and begin your drive toward the Tanzanian border. You will cross into Tanzania at the Kagunga border point.
From here, take a two-hour boat ride across Lake Tanganyika to reach Gombe Stream National Park.
Arrive in the afternoon and check in at your lodge or banda for lunch. Later, go for an afternoon trek through the forest in search of chimpanzees in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Gombe Stream National Park
After breakfast, set out for your morning chimpanzee trek, which usually begins around 8:30 a.m.
As you move through the forest, look out for other primates such as baboons, colobus monkeys, and vervet monkeys.
If time allows, visit Kakombe Falls and hike to Jane’s Peak for beautiful views of the park and lake. Return to your lodge for lunch, then spend the afternoon relaxing. You can enjoy swimming in Lake Tanganyika or resting on the beach.
Day 3: End of Chimpanzee Tour
After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and take a boat ride back across Lake Tanganyika to the Kagunga border.
