Detailed 3 Days Kakamega Forest Birding Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Kakamega Forest Reserve

After spending the night in Nairobi, wake up early and depart for Kakamega Forest Reserve, located on the edge of Lake Victoria, about 45 km from Kisumu town.

Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, then head out for an evening birding session at around 5:00 p.m. Birds to look out for include African emerald cuckoo, Blue-headed Bee-eater, Turner’s Eremomela, Black-billed Turaco, and Grey Parrots. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day Birding in Kakamega Forest Reserve

Start the day early with sunrise birding in the forest. Listen to the calls and watch birds such as Prinia, Black-faced Rufous Warbler, Turner’s Eremomela, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Olive-green Camaroptera, White-spotted Flufftail, Blue-headed Bee-eater, and Great Blue Turaco.

Return to the lodge for a late breakfast at around 10:00 a.m., then relax while enjoying light birding around the lodge. In the afternoon, head back to the forest for another birding session. You may also spot mammals such as vervet monkeys, duikers, red colobus, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer Back to Nairobi

Enjoy a morning bird-watching session at the edges of the forest before breakfast. Afterward, begin your drive back to Nairobi. You will be dropped off at your preferred location, marking the end of your 3 Days Kakamega Forest Birding Safari.
