Detailed 4-Day Mara and Nakuru National Parks Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel by your professional safari guide. Start your journey to Masai Mara National Reserve, which takes about 5 hours and 20 minutes by road. On arrival, enjoy a delicious lunch at your lodge.
In the evening, take a short sightseeing tour around the lodge to see the surrounding hills, valleys, and wildlife. Animals like warthogs and baboons often come close to the lodges. Dinner will be served around 6:00 p.m., followed by an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drives in Masai Mara
Enjoy an early breakfast before heading out for a morning game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve. This drive gives you a chance to see lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes — the Big Five — as well as wildebeests roaming the plains.
Return to your lodge by 11:00 a.m. to relax before lunch at 1:00 p.m. In the afternoon, go for another game drive in the Mara’s central area. Look out for zebras, elands, elephants, waterbucks, and more as you enjoy the beauty of the open savanna. Return to the lodge at 6:00 p.m. for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park, Boat Cruise, and Bird Watching
After breakfast, begin your 5-hour and 40-minute journey to Lake Nakuru National Park. On arrival, enjoy the scenic landscapes of Kenya as you make your way to the park.
In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on Lake Nakuru. The cruise gives you a chance to see a variety of birds including flamingos, African fish eagles, turacos, hammerkops, shoebills, and Abyssinian ground hornbills. It is also a great time to take beautiful photos of the lake and surrounding wildlife. After the boat cruise, head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Nairobi
After breakfast, go for a guided morning game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park. You will see African buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, and primates as they move across the open plains.
After the drive, begin your journey back to Nairobi, marking the end of your 4-day Mara and Nakuru National Parks Safari.
