Hike to the top of Africa, Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro, using the Marangu Route, also known as the Coca-Cola Route. It is considered the easiest and most direct route compared to the Machame Route. This makes it ideal for trekkers with limited time or those who prefer a gradual and steady climb.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Marangu Gate from Moshi – Hike to Mandara

Early in the morning, meet your driver-guide in Moshi town, Tanzania, and go through a short briefing about Mount Kilimanjaro and the hiking experience. You will then transfer to Marangu Gate for registration and receive all the necessary hiking equipment, such as ropes, food, walking sticks, and porters to help carry your luggage.

Begin your trek through the rainforest, where you can see monkeys and listen to the songs of birds. The hike takes about 4 to 5 hours to reach Mandara Hut, covering approximately 8 kilometers and reaching an altitude of 2,700 meters. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Hike to Horombo

After an early breakfast, start your hike to Horombo Hut. The trail passes through heathland and offers amazing views of the surroundings, including the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Along the way, you will see giant groundsel and lobelia plants. The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours, reaching an altitude of 3,720 meters. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Horombo Hut.

Day 3: Trek to Kibo Hut

After breakfast, continue your trek toward Kibo Hut at 4,700 meters above sea level. This is the last watering point before the summit. You will walk across the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. As you move higher, you will notice the vegetation thinning out as you enter the alpine desert region. Arrive at Kibo Camp around lunchtime, relax, and prepare for your early morning summit attempt.

Day 4: Hike to Summit and Descend to Horombo Hut

Wake up at midnight to begin your final ascent to the summit with the help of your torch and park guides. Pass through Gilman’s Point, where snow is often seen at the crater rim, before proceeding to Uhuru Peak, which stands at 5,895 meters above sea level. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Meru and the vast landscapes below.

Take photos and celebrate reaching the highest point in Africa. Afterward, descend to Kibo Hut for a hot lunch and a short rest. Continue descending to Horombo Hut, where you will spend your last night on the mountain.

Day 5: Trek to Marangu Gate and Transfer Back to Moshi Town

After breakfast, begin your descent through the forest to Marangu Gate. On arrival, park rangers will congratulate you and present a certificate of achievement for completing the climb.

Share your trekking experience with your guides and porters before meeting your driver for the transfer back to Moshi town. This marks the end of your Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari.
