Brief Mount Kenya Hiking Adventure Itinerary

  • Day 1: Transfer to Mount Kenya
  • Day 2: Hike from Mount Kenya Bandas to Lake Ellis campsite

  • Day 4: Hike from Mintos to Point Lenana and descend to Old Moses camp
  • Day 5: Descend to Sirimon Park Gate and transfer back to Nairobi

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Mount Kenya

You will be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi and transferred to Mount Kenya, a journey of about six and a half hours through Chogoria town. Lunch will be served on arrival in Chogoria.

In the afternoon, begin a 10 km walk to Mount Kenya Bandas, where you will camp for the night. Dinner will be served at the campsite before resting for the evening.

Day 2: Mount Kenya Bandas to Lake Ellis Campsite

After an early breakfast at Mount Kenya Bandas around 7:00 AM, begin your 9 km hike to Lake Ellis, located at 3,600 meters above sea level. This involves a steady ascent of about 700 meters.

Enjoy your packed lunch by the lake, surrounded by peaceful mountain views. Later in the afternoon, continue to the campsite to relax as you wait for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Lake Ellis to Mintos Camp

After breakfast at 8:00 AM, start the 12 km hike to Mintos Camp. You will stop along the way for lunch at a small mountain stream around 1:00 PM.

Continue your ascent to Mintos Camp, located at 4,200 meters above sea level. The hike passes through scenic valleys and moorland areas. On arrival, rest, enjoy dinner, and spend the night at the camp.

Day 4: Mintos to Point Lenana to Old Moses Camp

Breakfast will be served around 8:00 AM before starting a three-hour climb to Point Lenana, the highest trekking point on Mount Kenya. Spend about two hours at the summit enjoying the scenery and taking photos.

Afterward, have lunch at 1:00 PM and begin a five-hour descent through Mackinder’s Valley to Old Moses Camp. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Old Moses Camp.

Day 5: Old Moses Camp and Transfer to Nairobi

After breakfast at 7:00 AM, begin a three-hour descent to Sirimon Park Gate, where your guide will be waiting. From there, embark on a six-hour journey back to Nairobi, marking the end of your Mount Kenya hiking adventure.
