Detailed 3-Day Gombe Stream Chimpanzee Trek from Arusha Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Gombe Stream National Park
From Arusha, take a domestic flight to Kigoma Airfield, the main gateway to Gombe National Park in western Tanzania.
Upon arrival, your tour guide will meet you at the airport. If time allows, you can visit the Dr. David Livingstone Memorial Center before continuing to Kibirizi Port. From there, take a two-hour boat ride across Lake Tanganyika to reach Gombe Stream National Park.
After checking in at your banda or lodge, enjoy lunch and take a short afternoon hike in the surrounding forest. Later, return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Gombe Stream National Park
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. You will then enter the tropical forest in search of the chimpanzees of Gombe.
During the trek, you may also spot other wildlife such as vervet and colobus monkeys, and enjoy birdwatching along the trails.
Later, visit Kakombe Falls and hike to Jane’s Peak for wide views of the park and the lake. In the evening, spend some relaxing time by the beach before returning for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: End of Safari
In the morning, you may take a short hike in the forest before leaving the park.
You will then take a boat transfer back to Kigoma, where you will board your domestic flight to Arusha, marking the end of your 3-day Gombe Stream Chimpanzee Trek.
