Detailed 2-Day Lake Mburo Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo and Afternoon Boat Cruise

Your driver will pick you up from Kampala in the morning to begin the journey to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest and most accessible savannah park. The park is about a four-hour drive from Kampala and five hours from Entebbe Airport.

You will drive through Kayabwe, home of the Uganda Equator, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, buy souvenirs, and take memorable photos. Continue through Masaka and Lyantonde while enjoying the scenic plains of the Ankole–Masaka cattle corridor.

Enter the park through Nshara Gate. On your way, you might spot zebras grazing alongside the long-horned Ankole cattle or monkeys playing by the roadside.

Arrive at Rwonyo jetty and have lunch, either at a restaurant or with your packed meal, before preparing for the afternoon boat cruise. The boat departs at 2:00 pm and lasts about two to three hours, returning around 4:30 pm.

The boat cruise is a great way to see animals, birds, and reptiles up close. You may spot hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species such as kingfishers and herons. After the cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive, Optional Horseback Safari, and Return to Kampala

After breakfast, begin your morning game drive at around 6:30 am to see animals before they retreat from the open savannah. The Rwonyo area is one of the best spots, where many animals gather to lick the natural salt found in the rocks.

Expect to see herds of buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, impalas, bushbucks, waterbucks, elands, and many bird species. The game drive lasts about three to four hours, returning to the lodge by 11:00 am.

You can also choose to go on an optional horseback safari, which gives you a unique way to get closer to the wildlife in a calm and natural setting.

Afterward, check out of the lodge and drive to Igongo Cultural Centre for a short cultural tour of western Uganda’s largest museum. Depending on your schedule, you can have lunch here and enjoy the famous local dishes prepared at this hotel.

After lunch, start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe Airport, marking the end of your 2 Days Lake Mburo Wildlife Safari.
