Detailed 1-Day Murchison Falls Safari Itinerary
Depart from Kampala at 5:30 am and start your journey to Murchison Falls National Park in northwestern Uganda. The drive takes about 3 to 4 hours, so you will arrive around 11:00 am. Enter the park through the Kachumbanyobo Gate and proceed toward the ferry crossing near Paraa headquarters.
If time allows, take a short game drive through the nearby tracks before lunch. You may see several wild animals, including elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bushbucks, and spotted hyenas. Bird lovers can also enjoy sightings of many colorful species in the savannah.
By 1:00 pm, return to Paraa jetty to board the afternoon boat cruise, which departs at exactly 2:00 pm. The cruise travels along the calm waters of the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison and Uhuru Falls. Along the way, you may spot hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and waterbirds such as kingfishers, cormorants, and fish eagles.
The boat stops near the base of the falls, where the river squeezes through a narrow 7-meter gorge before plunging down to create a thunderous roar and a permanent rainbow. This is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.
Disembark for a short guided hike to the top of the falls. The walk is manageable even for beginners and rewards you with close-up views of the water forcefully gushing through the rocks.
After this memorable experience, meet your driver guide and begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. You will arrive in the evening, marking the end of your 1-Day Murchison Falls Safari.
