Detailed 21-Day Grand Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport and Transfer to a Hotel in Kampala

Upon arrival at the airport, our representative will meet and welcome you. You will be briefed about your 21-day Uganda safari and then transferred to your hotel in Kampala. The guide will inform you about the next day’s pickup time. Have dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 2: Kampala City Tour

After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Kampala. Visit the Kasubi Tombs, the burial place for Buganda kings, the Uganda Museum, the Baha’i Temple, the Kabaka’s Lake, and local markets. Later, visit Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, where the Uganda Martyrs were killed under King Mwanga in the 18th century. End the day with a narration about Buganda’s history before returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park and Stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive north to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest park. You will pass through Luweero and Nakasongola, where the 1986 liberation war took place. Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track rhinos, then have lunch and continue to the park via Karuma Falls. You might spot elephants and monkeys on the way. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, head for a morning game drive in the northern sector. Expect to see lions, leopards, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, and many bird species. Return for lunch, then take a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes along the banks.

Day 5: Transfer to Hoima Town

Have breakfast and enjoy a cultural experience in Hoima. Visit Bunyoro Kingdom headquarters and Mparo Tombs, the burial site of King Kabalega. Continue to Katasiha Fort, have lunch at Africa Village Guest Farm, and then check in at your lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Fort Portal and Visit Amabere Ganyinamwiru Caves

After breakfast, drive to Fort Portal while enjoying the scenic views of tea and banana plantations. Visit the Amabere caves and Nyakasura Falls, which hold historical stories of the Chwezi dynasty. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Visit Toro Kingdom and Fort Portal City Tour

After breakfast, visit the Toro Kingdom Palace, home of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who took the throne at the age of four. Visit Karambi Tombs, the burial site of Toro kings, and enjoy entertainment by Batooro cultural dancers.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, head to Kibale National Park for chimpanzee tracking. You will be briefed at Kanyanchu Visitor Centre before entering the forest. Tracking may take 2 to 6 hours depending on their location. Other primates you might see include red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and baboons. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp, known for its birds, butterflies, and local culture.

Day 9: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Boat Cruise

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This park is famous for tree-climbing lions and rich wildlife. Arrive in the afternoon for lunch, then take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. You will see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and many birds, including the shoebill stork if lucky.

Day 10: Game Drive and Visit Katwe Salt Lake

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi area. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, and Uganda kobs. Return to the lodge for lunch, then visit Katwe Salt Lake to learn how local people extract salt.

Day 11: Community Visit and Transfer to Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, visit nearby communities around Queen Elizabeth National Park. Learn about local farming and village life, enjoy the crater lake views, and have lunch before transferring to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Pass through Ishasha sector, known for tree-climbing lions, and reach Bwindi in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing. With your ranger guide, trek through the forest to find a gorilla family. The trek can take several hours depending on their location. Once found, spend one hour observing and taking photos. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Day 13: Community Visit and Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After breakfast, visit the Batwa community near Bwindi. Enjoy their songs, dances, and stories about their life before they left the forest. Later, transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Golden Monkey Trekking and Batwa Community Walk

After breakfast, go for a briefing and begin trekking golden monkeys. You may also see other primates such as Ruwenzori colobus and olive baboons. Spend one hour watching the golden monkeys before returning for lunch. In the evening, visit the Batwa community again to experience their traditional music, dance, and food.

Day 15: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park with Stop in Mbarara

After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Stop in Mbarara for lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre and visit its museum. Continue to Lake Mburo and check in at your lodge.

Day 16: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive. Expect to see zebras, antelopes, giraffes, elands, impalas, and buffaloes. Return for lunch, then go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo to see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.

Day 17: Transfer to Jinja and Stop at the Uganda Equator

After breakfast, travel to Jinja, Uganda’s adventure capital. Stop at the equator for photos and an experiment. Continue through Kampala and Mabira Forest, with views of coffee and sugarcane plantations. Take a forest walk in Mabira to see birds and monkeys. Proceed to Jinja and visit the Source of the Nile. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 18: Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park

After breakfast, drive to Mount Elgon National Park, known for having the largest caldera in the world. You might see elephants, baboons, and birds. On arrival, have lunch and take a short nature walk.

Day 19: Hiking Mount Elgon

After breakfast, start your hike up Mount Elgon. The hike takes about six hours and offers views of wildlife, birds, and plants. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the caldera before descending back to your lodge in Sipi for dinner and overnight.

Day 20: Hike to Sipi Falls and Cultural Encounter

After breakfast, hike to Sipi Falls, located near Kapchorwa at the foothills of Mount Elgon. Enjoy views of the waterfalls and the surrounding plains. After lunch, meet the Sabiny community and enjoy their songs and dances.

Day 21: Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, drive back to Kampala or Entebbe depending on your flight time. This marks the end of your 21-day Uganda safari.
