Detailed 4-Day Murchison Falls & Kibale Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up from Kampala and Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

Start your 4 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kampala. Begin the journey to Murchison Falls National Park, located about 305 km north of Kampala.

You may stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakitoma, Nakasongola District, for a guided rhino tracking experience. Continue the drive with a lunch stop in Masindi town or at Kabalega Dinners.

After lunch, proceed to the park and visit the top of Murchison Falls. Watch as the River Nile squeezes through a narrow gap and plunges about 40 meters below, creating one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world. Take photos and enjoy the scenery before heading to your lodge for check-in, dinner, and optional night game drive.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

Wake up early for breakfast and set out for a morning game drive on the northern bank of the Nile River. This area is home to elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes, antelopes, and many bird species.

Return to the lodge for lunch and prepare for an afternoon boat cruise along the Nile River. The cruise takes you upstream to the base of the falls, offering great views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and various water birds. You may also be lucky to see the rare shoebill stork.

The boat trip lasts about 3 to 4 hours. Afterward, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Drive from Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, start your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive takes you through scenic landscapes, tea plantations, and the Albertine Rift Valley. Along the way, you will see small towns, local farms, and lush vegetation.

Arrive in Fort Portal town in the evening and continue to your lodge near Kibale Forest. Check in, relax, and enjoy dinner as you prepare for the next day’s chimpanzee trekking experience.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Return to Kampala or Entebbe

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking rules and expectations. With the guidance of a ranger, begin your trek through the forest in search of the chimps.

The activity can take between 2 to 8 hours depending on where the chimps are located. Once you find them, spend time observing their behavior, how they play, feed, and communicate.

Kibale Forest is home to more than 13 primate species including blue monkeys, patas monkeys, baboons, red colobus monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. You may also spot bush pigs, mongoose, otters, and many bird species.

Return to your lodge for lunch and later start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe for your departure flight or overnight stay.
