Detailed 4-Day Queen Elizabeth Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park and Bigodi Swamp Walk

On this first day of your 4 Days Uganda Chimps and Wildlife Safari, you will be picked up from Kampala or Entebbe at 7:00 am and transferred to Kibale Forest National Park.

Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and later head out for a guided nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This community-managed area is full of natural attractions and wildlife. You will see butterflies, monkeys, squirrels, and several bird species including the famous Great Blue Turaco.

After the walk, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about the day’s main activity, chimpanzee trekking.

Chimpanzees share about 98.7% of their DNA with humans, and Kibale Forest National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see them. The park also has about 13 other primate species and several forest animals such as giant forest hogs, elephants, and duikers.

You will be led by ranger guides through the forest to locate the chimpanzees. Once you find them, you will spend one hour observing their behavior, feeding habits, and interactions.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park through Fort Portal, enjoying views of the Rwenzori Mountains along the way. Check in at your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Boat Trip on Kazinga Channel

Wake up early for breakfast and set out for a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Look out for elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, warthogs, and waterbucks. The drive usually lasts about three to four hours.

Return to your lodge for lunch and later go for a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a 45 km stretch of water that connects Lake Edward and Lake George.

During the cruise, you will see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and many birds such as pelicans, storks, spoonbills, fish eagles, and kingfishers.

Apart from the boat cruise and game drive, Queen Elizabeth National Park also offers optional activities like lion tracking, mongoose tracking, hippo census, and bird counting. These experiences take one to three hours and are available in the morning, evening, or at night.

After the boat cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Drive Back to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Have a lunch stop in Mbarara and another stop at the Equator for photos and souvenir shopping.

Arrive in the evening to mark the end of your 4 Days Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking and Wildlife Viewing Safari.
