Detailed 4-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast in Kampala or Entebbe, start your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most visited national park, covering 1,978 square kilometers in the southwest of the country.
Have a stop at the Uganda Equator for photos and continue to Mbarara town for lunch before heading toward the park. Along the way, you will see the Rwenzori Mountains, crater lakes, and the rift valley escarpments. You might also spot a few animals as you approach the park.
In the evening, enjoy a game drive through the park where you can see elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, waterbucks, warthogs, and many more. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Afternoon Boat Cruise
After breakfast, head to Kyambura Gorge for your chimpanzee trekking experience. This forested gorge is home to a few habituated chimp families that are exciting to track. Watching them swing from tree to tree is a memorable experience.
While trekking, you may also see other primates such as olive baboons, vervet monkeys, and bush babies, along with many bird species.
After the trek, visit Katunguru trading center to enjoy a short cultural experience and meet locals from different ethnic groups. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation before your afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.
During the cruise, look out for hippos, buffaloes, elephants, and many water birds such as pelicans and pied kingfishers. The experience offers great photo opportunities. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Game Drive and Tree Climbing Lions in Ishasha Sector
Wake up early at 6:30 am for a morning game drive to see early risers and nocturnal animals returning to their hiding places. You may spot lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, and hippos grazing.
After breakfast, proceed to the Ishasha sector in the southern part of the park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. On arrival, take a game drive through the area to look for lions resting on the branches of fig trees. You may also see elephants, topis, waterbucks, and buffaloes.
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Ishasha, with the meandering Ntungwe River adding to the charm of the area. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 4: Drive Back to Kampala or Entebbe Airport
After breakfast, check out and begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel via Kasese and Fort Portal, arriving in the evening. Depending on your schedule, you may have dinner and stay overnight in Kampala or continue directly to Entebbe International Airport for your flight.
