Detailed 7-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Kibale National Park
On arrival at the airport for your 7-day Uganda safari, your guide will welcome you and brief you about the trip. Drive to Kibale Forest National Park, known as the primate capital of Uganda, with over 13 primate species including chimpanzees and baboons.
Stop for lunch in Fort Portal before continuing to the park, passing through towns like Mubende and Mityana. Enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains and crater lakes along the way. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Wetland Visit
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before chimpanzee trekking. The trek starts at 8:00 am and takes you through the forest where you will see chimpanzees and other primates like monkeys and baboons.
Chimpanzees share about 98% of their DNA with humans, making this encounter very special. You may also spot red colobus monkeys, mangabeys, and several bird species.
After lunch, visit Bigodi Wetland, a great place for birdwatching and meeting local people. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Boat Cruise
After breakfast, drive for about 3 to 4 hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy the scenic views of the Rwenzori Mountains and Fort Portal along the way.
Arrive in time for lunch, then take an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. You will see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and many birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Morning Game Drive and Cultural Visit
Wake up early for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi area to spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and other animals. Return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the local communities near Lake George to learn about their daily life, traditions, and enjoy cultural performances such as songs and dances. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, drive south through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Stop for photos and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to mountain gorillas and other wildlife.
Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, and relax. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. With your guide, begin the trek through the thick forest in search of a gorilla family.
The trek can take between 2 and 8 hours depending on their movement. Once found, spend one hour observing and photographing the gorillas as they interact in their natural habitat.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience before returning for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala. Stop at the Equator for photos and lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre to learn about the history of western Uganda.
Continue to Kampala or Entebbe for your flight home.
